Five British figurative painters are brought together in this show that explores the importance of place from a personal and collective perspective. Joan Eardley, Sheila Fell, Eva Frankfurther, Josef Herman and LS Lowry each had strong affiliations to the areas in which they lived and worked, from Frankfurther’s visions of London’s east end and working-class communities working in the west end to Lowry’s observations of his hometown of Manchester. Featuring over 50 works that vary in themes from portraits to industrial scenes, a picture is painted of Britain between 1945 and 1964.
