Wangechi Mutu: Nguva na Nyoka

Beautifully grotesque creatures from the ocean morph and adapt in Mutu’s latest collage work. Inspired by folkloric stories from the Kenyan coast, the Nairobi-born, New York-based artist turns mythical narratives into densely rich pictures using magazine cuttings, feathers, fabric and soil. In the upper gallery, ritualistic scenarios are played out in Mutu's new film, in which she performs.
