In the middle of Wanstead park proudly sits an eighteenth-century, Grade II-listed building with a large white portico for an entrance; this is the temple. It was originally built as a feature for the formal gardens that surround it and over time has been used for poultry and as the grounds keeper's lodge, but now serves as a visitor centre for information about Wanstead House and the park. On occasion they also host events and open-air theatre productions here.
