Sometimes somewhere as simple as a patch of grass in the middle of a bustling thoroughfare is all you need to enjoy some time out in a busy city, and Victoria Embankment Gardens does it exactly that.

But it's unfair to say 'just a patch of grass' really in this instance. Actually a lovely small park, planted with delightful flowers, an abundance of benches to sit on, if you're not the plonk-yourself-on-the-grass type, and a lovely band-stand with old fashioned deck chairs, that comes to life on various weekends in summer.

The funny thing is, despite it's proximity to busy Charing Cross and Embankment Station, many people don't event realise these gardens are here, which means that, although never actually quiet (is anywhere in London?), you do have a teeny chance of grabbing a bench on even the sunniest days in London.

Don't get me wrong Victoria Embankment Gardens is not a destination spot - you won't find yourself organising a pic-nic with friends there - but a wonderful place to take a load off when you've been visiting nearby galleries, shops or catching up with a friend when you've no hope of getting into the wonderful Gordon's Wine Bar next door, which is possibly where you were originally aiming for.......
