A Brick Lane bar that will lock you up with booze but probably not throw away the key.

Alcotraz Shoreditch: Cell Block Two One Two says
Hidden behind unassuming shutters on Brick Lane lies Alcotraz Cell Block Two One Two, a secret prison staffed with crooked Guards to help you keep liquor hidden from the Warden so the working inmates can make delicious cocktails for you and your fellow inmates.

Inspired by Hollywood Movies and TV that have brought to life prison stories, Alcotraz is the worlds first prison-themed cocktail bar and London's first immersive theatrical cocktail bar.

From the orange jumpsuits upon entrance, to the real metallic cells, Alcotraz becomes the perfect backdrop to enjoy a drink within an epic yet intimate environment.

You won’t find a set menu of drinks here...after all, it is prison! Alcotraz creates a range of tailored cocktails every night based on the liquor you bring and your tastes. Just make sure you the Warden doesn’t catch you. Luckily, the Guards have creative ways of hiding contraband.

I would give this attraction no stars if possible, after I was aggressively pushed by one of the actors at the end of the night when trying to retrieve my coat.

I made a formal complaint and after over 7 days I still have not received a response from the manager.

The actors clearly have no boundaries with how far they will take the experience. Customers should not pay to be physically abused and there is no excuse for this, whether in character or not.

Avoid this experience at all costs.

If you have no good excuses to go out to drink alcohol, Alcotraz will give you one.

This BYOB experience is taking you into an American prison; forget your name and wear proudly your number.

You'll need to make sure you trust the good person; sneak your alcohol into the prison and try not to get caught by the director.

Inside, you’ll get 4 cocktails minimum. Be careful, as you are bringing your own bottle, the cocktails are strong and you will have only an hour and 45 minutes in.

The journey back home will be chaotic without a doubt if you had more than 5 cocktails in this amount of time.

Overall it was a good immersive experience, but it was too much alcohol. I can’t stand that much.

Avoid weekdays! The following morning in the office won’t be fun!

Alcotraz is a quirky and immersive themed bar. We were greeted by prison officers, ordered to put on orange jumpsuits and marched to our cells for the evening whilst smuggling in our cheeky bottles of alcohol. The prison wardens were great and the cocktails were delicious. A great evening out!

We visited Alcotraz over Halloween and had the best time! The cocktails were amazing and made to exactly our taste. The actors are fun and really talented. They created a great story line and did not break character. The jumpsuits, props and quality of the production cannot be faulted and the place looks fantastic. Thanks so much for having us. I'd urge anyone who can to experience this bar. If you ask me it's a bargain for the price!

We had a really brilliant time at Alcotraz last weekend. Great themed bar. Delicious cocktails, and guards and warden were so much fun and interacted with all the 'inmates'. We had such a good time and highly recommend it for couples and groups. We will definitely return.

Having been to quite a few immersive experiences, I have to say this is up there with one of the best especially given it was all in a very small space but the attention to detail was incredible.

Yes you do pay for the experience and then have to bring your own alcohol in but this all adds to it on this occasion as you have to sneak it past the warden, who is absolutely brilliant! Surprisingly very good accents from all the prison staff and they all played great characters.

Everything was very well thought out and organised, the time does fly by in there but that can only mean that you are having a good time right?

This is the first immersive cocktail bar I have ever been to or in fact heard of and it has been done amazingly! The detail is incredible, the actors are brilliant and the cocktails are fantastic. Being a BYOB means you don't have any hassle with menus and means you can enjoy your company and the amazing setting and theatre around you.

I feel £30 for 4 delicious cocktails is actually really good value in London and that's not even taking the immersive theatre into consideration.

I would highly recommend for a date night or night with friends.

Possibly one of the most immersive cocktail experiences I’ve had. Everything about Alcotraz makes you wonder if you’re in an actual prison cell because the details are all painstakingly recreated. From your orange prison cell uniform (yep, even have to change into costumes) the ‘notes’ stuck to the walls, the prison warden & guards with their American accents patrolling the cells, the entrance into the bar, the dim lighting, the banging on the ‘prison cells’ iron grilles, it’s all incredibly realistic.

It’s a BYOC affair so in the time limit that you have inside, your bartender will come round to take your bottle of poison and concoct a cocktail based on what you bring. As it’s a prison, you have to sneak your booze past ‘the guards’ and inconspicuously pass it over to your mixologist. You’ll also to be pretty careful about hiding your booze from the guards when they come round for cell 'checks.'

However, once you get Cocktails were pretty average and the seatings were pretty uncomfortable. I know its meant to replicate a prison but I think comfort is something that shouldn’t be compromised. Getting a ‘cell’ for yourself is also unlikely. You’re going to share with another group if that’s ok with you.

The one other big downside is the price. For £30 per person for a 1.5-hour slot is steep. It doesn’t take a genius to work out you can get a better deal elsewhere even in Mayfair.

The novelty is the great pull and the experience is pretty out of this world. But underneath that, you’re left with a pretty average cocktail bar. This will fly being in Shoreditch where all the cool kids hang and where uniqueness is king. But this is one to avoid if you’re looking for a proper cocktail bar. But if fun is the name of the game, then plead guilty and enter Alcotraz.

I understand that there has been controversy surrounding the taste of having a prison themed cocktail bar. However, I shall only comment on the execution of the idea. Having met the owner of the pop-up bar, Sam, the idea was to provide an environment where patrons are wowed by the setting as well as save time thinking of cocktails to have. Full faith is placed on the mixologists to provide a satisfying cocktail. The prison theme came from a childhood fascination of prison derived from depictions in cinema.

There was no denying that the fully immersive experience was well done. The accents were authentic whilst the orange jump suits that we were supplied with added a bit of tension to proceedings. There was no denying that the details everywhere were fantastic and it certainly served its purpose as Insta bait.

The only downsides were that it was expensive (as you also had to provide your own alcohol) and each setting was quite brief at under 2 hours.
