Brasserie Max

Beneath a row of flags topping the stern, stylish Covent Garden Hotel, this bar-restaurant offers a lovely environment in which to sip drinks and munch on snacks – but at a price.

The tone is set by an ice bucket of Krug on the bar counter; however, the fine cocktails, old-school martinis and updated classics such as the Covent Garden Mojito (with blood-orange purée), may be a better bet. The wine list is good but, like everything else here, it’s not cheap.

Platters (£25!) come in Asian, Mediterranean, dumpling and mini-burger varieties. Waiters squeeze their way between the half-moon chairs from the zinc bar in a bid to create a brasserie atmosphere.

I love visiting the bars/restaurants at the Firmdale Hotels in London. The ambiance is always top notch and I easily get lost in the decor. So I was happy to sit and enjoy a tipple at Brasserie Max in the Firmdale group's grande dame, the Covent Garden Hotel.

I mulled over the menu for quite a while - there are a TON of cocktail options there and I really couldn't decide, so after chatting with one of the bartenders about what I like (gin, pretty much), he made me a Martinez - a mix of gin, Dubonnet, and I can't remember what else but my goodness it was delicious! The staff was incredibly attentive and their manner with guests was impeccable. I don't spend too much time in Covent Garden as I live and work further east, but I will definitely pop in for another visit when in Seven Dials in future. Shoutout to Silvia for her poise and professionalism when greeting each guest - and for letting me peek through Kit Kemp's new book! Loved it!

This is a great place for a working breakfast. A varied menu, reasonably priced and quiet and relaxed enough to be able to have a proper meeting at the same time.

Always a wonderful spot for lunch. The crab cake from the specials, when it is on, is one to go for. Staff always attentive and polite. A good relaxed atmosphere.

Pros: the ambience (it has the trademark quirky yet cosy feel Firmdale Hotels do so well), the glorious old school zinc bars (always gets top marks from me), the tuna niçoise salad (a real deal: my grilled tuna steak was cooked medium rare as requested and was too big for me to finish, although I came in famished), the stuff was friendly and chatty without being obtrusive. Cons: it escapes me why a maitre-d' would make us wait at the bar while they set a table for 2 when told our party was down from 3 to 2 people, when the room was clearly nearly empty and we came in off-hours (at 2.30 pm). It never did fill up. So what's the big deal if we did sit at a larger table?

Had a delicious lunch here, highly recommend the miso cod and ALL the sides, we had fries, broccoli and green beans. The ambience is lovely and the service is faultless. Will definitely be back when I am in the area again.

Brasserie Max at the Covent Garden hotel is the perfect place for a business breakfast or Lunch. The menu is varied and they do great scrambled eggs and salmon for breakfast. As with all the Firmdale Hotels, it is beautifully designed and has a great atmosphere. It's also a great drop in after work for a glass of Fizz.

What a lovely lunch I had at this delightful restaurant. Lina, who served me was outstanding and the pappardelle pasta dish was delicious. The service was fantastic
