Everything screams for attention at the Haymarket Hotel’s bright, almost brash bar, though the kaleidoscope of pink and red, patterned with geometrics on the bar stools and florals on the sofas, may not be to everyone’s taste. The upscale class of the hotel, part of Tim and Kit Kemp’s Firmdale group, brings in a relaxed crowd.

The cocktail menu steers a course through standards and new creations: a Haymarket Cosmo (£11), for instance, adds limoncello, mint and crushed ice to the expected vodka and cranberry.

The fine staff balance friendliness and professionalism.

I absolutely LOVE this bar. The picture above is old as the decor has changed a bit, but it's still just as quirky. The drinks, while a bit pricey, are pretty reasonable for Haymarket - and considering that the hotel the bar is located in is the UK's top 5-star hotel as rated by Trip Advisor, they're a steal. The bar staff are attentive and funny and won't hesitate to create you something nice should you have no idea what you'd like. All in all, I highly recommend it pre- or post-theatre - just be aware that they close at 11:45 Monday-Saturday and 10:45 Sunday.

PS. The afternoon tea in the restaurant is AWESOME. (and they do gluten-free, too!)
