Please note, this branch of BYOC is now closed. Time Out eating & drinking editors, Sep 2016.

The concept at this tiny candlelit space beneath a juice bar in Covent Garden is ‘Bring Your Own Cocktail’ – or rather, bring your own bottle of spirits, and the bartender will create bespoke cocktails for you with the syrups, fresh juices, bitters, own-made cordials and other concoctions from his old-fashioned drinks trolley. It costs £20 per person, and you have to book through their website.

BYOC says
A cocktail bar… that doesn’t sell alcohol! With no alcohol available to buy on the premises, and no drinks menu, guests are invited to bring their own favourite tipple for the skilled bartenders to create cocktails tailored perfectly to their taste.

my third time in total to a BYOC, 2nd time to covent garden one. great idea, really nice and intimate venue, staff are always lovely and really welcoming. all in all an excellent place for good cocktails and a chilled out, quieter vibe away from busy London cocktail bars

I went to BYOC on Friday night with 3 friends and we had such a brilliant time. We had 5 cocktails in our 2hr time slot, all completely different from each other, and all really unique when compared with any cocktail menu you might have seen elsewhere! We all want to go back and am recommending it to people.

I remember attending BYOC when it first opened. It was perfect! led down the hidden staircase clutching our poison of choice we entered a small candlelit room with a lot of charm. I had some of the best cocktails in London that night. I have been here several other times since then and I am sad to stay that each time I return I am more and more disappointed. A visit I made a few months ago left me a little shocked as our bar tender was completely drunk and it made for a very unpleasant evening, especially when he spilt half of my very nice bottle of champagne. The last few times I've been has also been annoying because me and my party spent ages waiting for drinks and the two hour time slot is wasted.  The problem here is the bar tenders are always different so you are never entirely sure what you are going to get. I think this place definitely needs to asses the quality of the drinks going out and the bar tenders they are hiring. This is place is definitely no longer worth the £25 (used to be £20) fee - You are better off going round the corner to the London cocktail club.

Loved the experience! We started by discovering the bar in the basement of a rather ordinary looking juice bar. However we were quickly immersed into an intimate space with details in every nook and cranny. It's a very cosy space but as the sittings are timed everyone has their own allocated area and it almost feels as though you're completely alone. We took multiple bottles of different spirits, to try out a few different drinks. The mixologist was incredibly knowledgable and hit the spot with each drink. He wheels around a little vintage trolly full of fun ingredients and you'll watch in awe as he crafts the most beautiful cocktails in front of you. A must try experience!

I've been in Byoc Covent Garden many times. I just love the concept. The last time was this incredible bartender called Pete who makes for us this extravagant yellow pepper cocktail never heard before. It was amazing! I highly recommend.

Great cocktails, bar staff were very attentive and we were never without a drink. They even made a special drink for our friend who's birthday it was. Would definitely go again.

The only issue was the front of house staff who need to brush up on their client manner. A friend and I were slightly late to meet a larger group and we were asked so many questions that we thought we would never get downstairs to the bar. Would suggest they put someone else at front of house as this did taint the experience slightly.

All in all - a good evening out.

Abusive staff, terrible cocktails and an awful atmosphere. We were made to wait 45 minutes for drinks, eventually making our own, and then the bar tender tried to use our alcohol to make drinks for other people. A very awkward and dissapointing night out.

Utterly awful. Staff are rude, the bartender couldn't handle the pressure and we waited up to 30 minutes for another drink! (the table is only for 2 hours). Have emailed for a refund.

Do NOT bother. Very rude staff, a limit on how many drinks you can have-we had three some people have said they've had four. You pay £20 each and take your own alcohol and then are expected to tip the bar man who was not attentive what so ever. The actual bar is a nice idea, but in no possible way does it compensate for terrible service and waiting for drinks. Just go to any normal London bar, £10 a drink at any one would work out better value then this!
