The Connaught has always had the most country house-like feeling of London’s great hotels, and the effect reaches perfection in the Coburg. It seems effortlessly beautiful, from the deep patterned carpet to the moulded ceiling; the wing chairs, a long-time fixture, can induce torpor even if you’re drinking a double espresso. As you would expect, luxuries abound on the drinks list and prices are high – though for cocktails, not as high as at the Artesian. Great champagnes and cognacs feature prominently. The cocktail list focuses on classics, which it introduces with a brief history. Execution is flawless; two manhattans, one a ‘perfect’ version and one sweet, were the best we’ve ever had in London. Bowls of crisps and olives, both outstanding in quality, are replaced when empty. One quibble: the mediocre cocktail-lounge music, unduly prominent on a quiet Monday night, didn’t suit the character of the bar. Apart from that, we have nothing but praise.

Terrible service. We waited about 30 minutes before someone took our order. It was not a particularly busy night. The drinks when we did get them were fantastic, so hats off to the barman. However, it again took so long for a waiter to come back we decided against having another and got the bill. What did we pay for? Purely just for the drinks-- which again were good but I can get interesting and innovative cocktails in hundreds of other places in London. Service was such I would never come back here again.

Way to go Mayfair. Way. To. Go.

There is something really luxe about Hotel bars and this one, in particular, is lush. With large plush armchairs and low lighting, the venue acts like a stately home drawing room stoke country pub where you almost expect to see a dog sleeping by a large fire. The service is incredibly attentive and the drinks on offer are amazing. This is by no means a cheap bar but the ambience and quality are worth it.

Visited the Coburg Bar for a couple of drinks last night before going elsewhere for dinner. The vibe was great, with superb service and well constructed cocktails. Should have stayed all evening.
