Not to be confused with the Effra pub down the road, this Effra is a charming old working men's club that is now used for a variety of gigs, club nights, ping pong, quizzes and roasts on Sundays.

Worst birthday experience of my life. I booked a table for 20 people for dinner for my birthday a week in advance over the phone, and even double checked in person on the day, a couple of hours before the we were due to arrive. But someone lost our reservation by the time we arrived. So we were 20 people in a loud club waiting for them to sort it out for an hour as nowhere in London was available on a Saturday night at such short notice for 20 people. Terribly disorganised place and am awaiting an explanation or apology. They ruined my night.

Worst roast dinner I've ever had in London. Beef was overcooked and dry, potatoes and veg were nearly raw, and we had to go and ask for cutlery twice. Much better options around the area.

Great beer, table tennis and pinball! Amazing Sunday roasts in a cute restaurant out the back - whole chicken with all the trimmings! Decent night out with good music.

brill food. great tunes. friendly security and a great beer garden when the suns out.

Love this place, great music, lovely beer, good grub. Atmosphere is the friendliest in Brixton even when it gets packed out on a weekend and the staff are ace. Our go to stop on a night out in south.

Laidback 'working men's club' chic - The bar what used to be the local Conservative Club, so there's lots of memorabilia (if you can call it that!) dotted around the place. The original darts board and pool table are well used. Decent priced bar and a great front garden that's sheltered from the busy main road in front. Nice mixed crowd and friendly service to boot.

I loved this place. Visited on a Saturday night and like most of Brixton it was way too heavily securitied (thats not a word but y'know) which I find a bit OTT... but after that initial off putting facade the inside is so so fun.

They were pumping disco, the crowd was mixed ages and very friendly, the drinks were good prices (although bar queue got `a little over worked) its open til 1am too which is a treat. Slightly off the beaten track in Brixton which is probably good because the party vibe stays interupted from passers by.

Large front garden, great foir hosting big groups.

I will say the toilets were the worst I've seen outside of Reading Festival 2005 on the night I visited- sort that out and this could be a new fave.

Very nice and laid back pub with some thematic night along the month! All free! There is a nice beer garden in front of the place and a restaurant that looks like a 70´s country club in the back. I didn´t eat, but people say it´s nice.

Great beer on tap, so cool it's the old Tory club, good space, brill beer garden and Winston Churchills room rocks!

Very laid back and chill pub. Pub Quiz Nights on Tuesdays are the best! Always extremely well-attended and a lot of fun. The quiz is challenging but in my opinion the best one in London!

Laid back during the week with great food, good selection on tap and fun social events and fun atmosphere on the weekend with great djs and an awesome disco ball!

Unique performance space. It's not often you get to perform in front of two portraits of Churchill!

Great venue, great staff. Great club nights especially like the disco night, DSKO. The best night like that in south London by a mile.

I always skipped Effra Social and went straight to Hootanannys, but then I decided to give the funk n soul night a chance. The decor is This is England but there's people there from all walks of life creating a buzzing and friendly atmosphere.

This is my local, The Standout for me is the Ale they serve. They have a great variety of local beers ranging from Strong IPA's to Stouts, Ambers and Wheat beers. The staff are friendly and it has a sort of chilled out vibe about it. the food is excellent.
Weekends are lively with different Djs every week. The best venue in Brixton in my opinion.

Effra Social was Effra Conservative Club for over 100yrs. The front room is known as The Churchill Lounge because apparently Winston himself had a few drinks and cigars in there. I also heard that the final for The World Snooker Championship was held in the Main Hall sometime in the 50's (I haven't found any proof yet, though I know there was a full sized table in there for a good while). This pub offers some of the finest ales from near and far (always have Brixton Brewery on cask or bottle), reasonably priced draught and spirits, with premium options (not many cocktails though), hearty Traditional British food such as pies, fish & chips, bangers & mash etc, Pub Quiz every Tuesday (hosted by a very charismatic Irish chap), Ping-Pong, Pinball, Table-Football, loads of board games, sports channels, a restaurant, a beer yard at the front of the building, DJs every Friday and Saturday (+ Disco Ball!), they have a lovely "Phoenix Nights" style stage (I haven't seen many bands on there to be honest), it's always free to get in, they take reservations and can also accommodate for private functions. Huge parquet floor. None of this chipboard, pallets and polythene sheet nonsense. Dog and child friendly.

Proper pub. Best in Brixton by miles!

Effra social is (I think) an old working men's club, now a pub. A pub that kinda turns into a late night disco around 11, and it gets really busy. This place ain't for the faint hearted, or those seeking good quality wine. You're going to get beer, or cheap spirits, and it's going to be a fun night. They don't do cocktails, the dress code is whatever the heck you fancy, and it's an alright boozer within throwing distance of Hootenanny's (if the night takes you in that direction, which it invariably will).
