Late-night dim sum and cocktail bar under the Clapham railway arches, themed on fictional Chinese master criminal Fu Manchu.

Please note: Since this review was published, this restaurant no longer serves dim sum. Time Out editors, 2019.

At weekends in Clapham High Street, about 3am, rowdy drunks spill onto the pavements from score of bars and clubs. Clapham has become a hotspot for bars. A few are for the discerning drinker; many are not.

Fu Manchu raises the bar, even though a themed drinking spot is hardly an original idea. Fu Manchu is a fictional Chinese villain; his portrait decorates the entrance to this repurposed railway arch. The theme extends to Chinese screens, dim sum snacks (all you can eat for £19.50 on Sundays), and cocktails with an Asian bent.

The Lady Jasmin cocktail (£9) is a variation on a White Lady, with citrus and egg white. Other options include Tsingtao lager (£4.50) or glasses of Italian pinot grigio (£5.30). We'd advise sticking with the cocktails.

Fu Manchu scores big with its sound system. Pleasantly upbeat house played on our visit, from big speakers, not too loud. The volume will get cranked up for DJ sets from 10pm, and last until 3am on Saturday. Leave after 3am at your peril: there’s brawling, bawling and possibly balling in Clapham’s dark corners.

Fu Manchu says
This mysterious late-night cocktail bar located in South London’s party hotspot of Clapham, is a great venue for those sordid sojourns in the evenings.

Named after the infamous 1930’s fictional villain, Fu Manchu is an Opium den themed cocktail bar and nightclub. Serving up sublime and tortuous cocktails, with tantalizing titles such as The Kiss of Death and Manchu's Mind Control, made from exciting blends of Asian spices and Chinese teas.

Top it all off with a dance floor, some great DJ sets and regular live music and you have a decadent den for your weekend mischief. Head south of the river and let loose.

The venue is perfect spot for a night out, banging birthday bashes right through to those lavish celebrations then we have got you covered. You can book a booth, area or the whole venue and with a range of packages we can make your even one to remember.
