Not to be confused with the nearby Green Tavern, this food-oriented corner venue looks like a typical neighbourhood pub, but takes a distinctly continental approach to proceedings. Below a huge antique clock, smartly dressed types loosen their ties and tuck into upscale bar snacks (homemade Cumberland sausage rolls, warm pork scratchings with apple sauce) or more substantial mains (steamed sea bass, perhaps, or risotto of cauliflower, sorrel and truffle oil).
There are around 30 wines, a dozen or so of which are available by the glass; draught options include Bee Sting Pear Cider, Licher Weizen, Bitburger and Adnams, with Duvel and Bellevue Kriek sold by the bottle. The square of terrace by the front door catches the sun quite nicely, while upstairs is a slightly more formal dining room.

Cozy independent pub. Good food, friendly staff. Nice ales too! They also sell Monkey 47, my fave gin
I used to work around the corner from The Green, but still find myself arranging to meet friends / colleagues here for lunch or after work drinks. The food is always top drawer and the selection of beer & wines is also impressive. The service can sometimes be patchy, but that's only been at busy times in my experience. I've booked up a group Christmas get together in the upstairs dining room and can't wait. The manager was helpful in organising a menu, and the chef is doing us 4 slow roast shoulders of lamb. Will report back!
I go to the green time and time again. The wine selection is fantastic, with the food even better. In a lovely quaint setting, me and my friends have watched the football and are planning to grab a bite and a cheeky drink after work with the olympics. The staff were helpful in advising me on wine choice to compliment my meal, which is making me consider having my 30th birthday meal in the dining room upstairs. Highly recommended.
My experience with the Green was a complete disaster. We booked our company Christmas lunch with them (for a group of eight) weeks in advance and again confirmed the booking two days in advance. Yet, when we arrived at the place, we were told in a very rude manner that "supposedly" someone from our group called and cancelled our lunch earlier in the day. It sounded as very lame excuse, they refused to let us in, saying that because we allegedly cancelled, the cook did not order food for us in the morning. Yet, they had no more available tables. In reality, it appears that another booking that they have received was for a bigger group than originally anticipated. As the space in the Green is limited, the management of the Green took a decision to "accommodate" that bigger group by simply turning us down on the spot without any advance warning! Their conduct shows that they simply do not care about customers and good reputation. In dealing with us, the staff was extremely rude, unprofessional and simply indecent.
