A trio of London bartenders spruced up this old boozer on the edge of Victoria Park nicely. It’s not overly eclectic – art deco mirrors, smart chandeliers, gun chairs – and feels as if it’s been here for ages.

A small open-plan kitchen serves a dining room to the rear, where the frequently rotated menu might include grilled prawns and tapenade, or scotch egg, oozing yolk and served with piccalilli, with roasts on Sundays.

There’s a striking selection of spirits, with bourbons and rums especially well represented. The range of draught beers includes Meantime Wheat, Konig Pilsener and Heineken, with Deuchars IPA and Doom Bar on handpull and Peroni Gran Reserva in the fridge.

It feels like a pub to spend time in: plenty of board games, piles of retro magazines, (non-Sky) football on the projection screen and – this being Hackney – single-speed cycling sorts chilling out front.

Went here with a group of friends on a Sunday night and even then it was crowded and had a great atmosphere. It's as good as you would expect a pub to be for drinking and hanging out and has a lovely outdoor area, which gets really happening in the summer. It's right next to Victoria Park so a good place to transfer to after a day spent soaking up the sun in there. My friends ordered the Beef Wellington, which has a hefty price tag but is absolutely incredible and is designed as a sharing dish. The beef is so tender, you wouldn't believe it, and the veggies on the side are also top notch. Would also recommend trying the scotch eggs, they are divine. Lovely little joint for food, drinks, and cozy times!

Went there Saturday night, booked a table in advance. We had to sit in the bar area, although in seats for quite a while, but were able to go into a back room later. Good atmosphere, 'interesting decor' (lots of taxidermy!). I had the burger which was very choice and not too bad value at 13 quid. Some of the others had beef Wellington which was more expensive but very well reviewed. My friend had the apple and pineapple crumble which I finished - this was a tasty treat too, even if it contained coconut flakes... not normally my favorite ingredient! Some crazy lip shaped urinals in the back which are worth checking out.

Nice food lovely pub, but the wine list is appaling 4 red 4 whites all overpriced and really badly chosen

Best Vegetarian Sunday lunch in a long time!! The staff were really helpful and friendly too!
