Love this pub, great atmosphere and fantastic staff that make you feel welcome as soon as you walk in. Have only eaten here once but could not fault the food.
In a word, crap. A great shame they got rid of such a good landlord as John was. The new bloke hasn't a clue. No guest beers anymore, no snack bar food at lunchtime, not until 5pm. Funny was to run a pub. And it use to be so good with cheerful and friendly staff that knew your name. Now it's got surly young girls that speak little English and have trouble understanding. I won't be returning.
If anyone in the South West is looking for a Gastro Pub with welcoming staff, a relaxed atmosphere, friendly faces behind the bar but professional service to boot - then go no further than The Hope. As someone who previously had seen staff come and go and service ebb and flow as a result in previous years, the management team of Richard and Dan really have ensured this place is a pleasant place to visit - all the time, every time. Given their location on the common, their beer garden outside and the great atmosphere inside, this pub works for both summer and winter. I would be surprised to ever see a negative review whilst run with this team at the helm.
