As one of the first of the new wave of London craft beer bars, The Jolly Butchers has stood the test of time well. It’s dated by a few dodgy design details from the most recent refurb (those lights above the bar with the faces on, for instance, although thankfully the Fornasetti wallpaper is gone), and the rip-everything-out openness of the Victorian-era room can make it a bit clattery and cold (physically, at least). But there’s no problem with the atmosphere as jolly Stokey drinkers pack in for the excellent beers, which place an emphasis on British breweries and give cask and keg equal standing. There are also healthy portions of good pub grub.

How lucky am I that this is my local! It really isn't hard to get a London pub right - lots of tables, friendly staff, good grub that includes a roast, mixed crowd, casual atmosphere, no gimmicks - job done. A rare 5 stars from me.

Nope nothing to see here...just kiding! Only one of the best Sunday roasts in London town :-) As a West Londoner this is slightly out of my way, but crikey it is worth it. I went for a drink on Saturday and then for a Sunday roast on Sunday (wow this is starting to sound like a Craig David song)...but it really is a place worth of being a repeat offender! It is cosy - so perfect for cosy days and nights with super nice wine and a cool, eclectic atmosphere. No music - just talking lols! The Sunday roast is worth booking for with a huge selection - which makes everyone happy and really nice bar staff too. A 5 star Jolly experience for me.

Best Vegetarian Sunday Roast AND two choices on the menu!!!! Definitely gets my vote for this reason never mind the extensive and very good beer selection.

Great beers on tap, my parents also love this place. Beer for beer connoisseurs...

Fabulous selection of craft beers, older crowd, old skool pub vibe , lovely food and very friendly staff...

Excellent selection of beers and ciders, always friendly staff and great atmosphere.

Brilliant Sunday lunch - the kids portion is big enough for me as I don't have a huge appetite - which makes it an absolute steal!

Awesome pub to spend a Sunday. The roasts are excellent and reasonably priced, the beer selection is massive. It's always rammed on the weekend, but you can book - and normally only need to call the day before to make a reservation.

Hey T.O., who said that N16 people were happy with "weary boozers, formulaic gastropubs and corny bars" - did you ask any of us? What a silly comment. The JBs is packed out every night and its carefully chosen array of craft beers brings people from far and wide - it's the equal of the Southampton Arms. The staff are friendly, knowledgeable and helpful (there's nothing "beerier than thou" about the place) and it's a great pub to start exploring the world of beer. Its only drawbacks are that it gets overcrowded, there are a few too many hipsters, and the open-plan space tends to full up with frying smells from the open kitchen. Otherwise it's the best alehouse in Stoke Newington and deserving of a far higher score than TO's parsimonious 3/5.

Great variety of beer on offer, as long as you do not want regular mainstream beer that is. Its great to have a regular and different variety of beer on offer. Beer is sourced from local brewers, or niche brewers. an excellent choice . Staff know their beer and can guide you in your choice. Food is good, with large portions. Not a wide choice but sufficient variety. The sausage platter is great and the pork spare ribs portion is a huge finger licking good size. Staff friendly. No TV to spoil the atmosphere...a great place to meet mates for a good beer and chat. On Wednesday evening there is a knitting club that meets and knits...great fun. Excellent Sunday roasts that are popular....get in early for a place.
