An airy, friendly local gastropub in a calm corner of Newington Green.
Mildmay Park, a road now home to little more than a former railway station and a big tiled library, was the namesake of the HIV hospital that Princess Diana made famous in the ’80s. It’s also home to a different Lady: the Lady Mildmay. Welcoming staff, good booze and an irresistible menu are making this spacious pub a favourite with locals, but it’s worth a journey from other parts of town too.
On a warm day the Lady’s many side doors are left wide open, and when it’s woolly jumper weather there’s a real fire to curl up next to. This commitment to comfort is typical of the pub’s approach. Staff are subtly eager to please, talking you through any toss-ups between the house gin of the day or that craft lager you’ve not tried before. The Med-leaning gastropubby menu is exotic enough to make you feel they know what they’re doing but not so exotic that your gran would be forced to ask for ‘just chips’.
Dogs are allowed – always a good sign – as are board games, though it’s best to bring your own (at least that way you’ll know the Scrabble will still have all the Bs). And one final jewel in the already sparkly crown is the Sunday roast which could please even the Duke of Edinburgh. With its fluffy Yorkshires, tender meat, rich gravy and cauliflower cheese, it’s so desirable that you’d be wise to call ahead and pre-order. So go out in Newington Green this weekend. This Lady may be next in line as queen of our hearts.
Five ale taps rotate, mostly with London brewers and European pilsners include Krusovice, Sagres and Moretti. Home-infused gins and our very own summer cup are also on offer on a well stocked back bar.
The well informed but friendly team includes Sidney, our resident dog who can often be found curled up in front of the fire. So swing by and say hello.

Great way to start a night. Our barman/mixologist was very talented and a great guy. Would try and avoid nights with crazy hen parties if you're going as a couple.
Just discovered this newly renovated pub. Great service. Great food. Nice music. Feels like a real local pub.
This pub is just amazing! Delicious food, a variety of both unusual and familar beer, wine and spirits. But the thing that makes this place stand out is the staff and ambience. Favourite pub EVER!
Friendly, warm and welcoming! This pub is everything a good neighbourhood pub should be... and more!
Best version of this pub since the late 90's version when it was a sports bar, chilled atmosphere and great food.
Really relaxed vibe, fun and friendly staff. Such a lovely place to go and relax in the evening, and really great atmosphere in the day if you need a little corner to catch up on some work or have a bite to eat. The food is really reasonable and there is a huge drinks selection. Such a good all rounder.
Everything you want in a local neighbourhood pub; great food, friendly staff and gin. Well worth a visit
Top marks for this excellent gastro-pub. Good food, efficiently but friendly served and an interesting and varied menu. RECOMMENDED
The Lady Mildmay is a cool pub right by Newington Green which opened at the beginning of the year. I've lived in the area for years and while we have loads of nice places around we really lacked a good, decent, proper pub with really really good food. The staff are super friendly, the chefs know what they're doing and the beers are kept well. Love this place.
By far one of the best bars in Islington I've been to! Amazing staff with great service and exceptional food- if you're ever in Stokey, try this place!
Fantastic, friendly staff. Great food. Great beer. Great wine. Amazing home brewed gin. What's not to like?
The Lady Mildmay is a fabulous new addition to the steadily developing Newington Green area. Great choice of craft and local beer and creative, reasonably priced food. Best of although is the atmosphere - a light airy corner pub opposite the Green with no music and friendly staff. It's rapidly become our local!
A very dashing gentleman behind the bar named Quinny made me a Steve's Gin Cup. The best service and gin I've ever received. I'll be recommending this place to anyone that listens. A++.
Came here for a friends birthday and had an amazing time. Food was fantastic and the staff were very welcoming and friendly. Will be back for another great night soon.
A warm and friendly pub with great atmosphere and attentive staff. Food is fresh and always tasty and a bit of a local gem
Love this pub! Perfect for meeting with friends, enjoying delicious Mediterranean food, wine and the atmosphere is very chilled with friendly staff who make time for everyone. Last Friday I took my mum and my sister here and they had a pianist which was just a perfect touch 👌
My new local pub. Just moved into the area and this pub has it all . Delcious fresh food . The menu changes every 3 weeks. Amazing selection of wines and beers with a perfect atmosphere. Staff are really friendly and the sunday roast is top notch.
At last, a pub re-opening / refit that actually works ! I'm a bit of a traditionalist pub wise myself and tend to be the first to tut and moan about "trendy" North London pubs so it has been refreshing to see these guys get hold of this lovely but previously unloved (or at least confused...) beautiful Victorian corner boozer, paint it, clean it up and not do not too much else except concentrate on great beer (great selection from London breweries on draft - not just a fridge full of "craft" beers - although they had plenty of these too), wine (not my thing but my girlfriend was impressed), food (ate a selection of the starters from the blackboard at the bar which was served directly from the open kitchen which is interestingly pretty much behind the bar) and (the thing most pubs have abandoned these days...) service. Only negative would be the lack of outside tables but with all the huge Victorian windows wide open it hardly mattered. Will be returning soon for their Sunday lunch which has been recommended.
Popped in for a Sunday lunch with my family a couple of weeks ago. The food was delicious, staff very friendly. we will definitely be back.
Stopped by here a few times on my way to Clapton. Great pints behind the bar - different each time I attended. Landlord is a cheerful chappy too. I shall be returning.
Have been coming to this gem of a pub since it opened. Simply fantastic staff and the food is of very high quality with a constantly changing menu. Also, the beers on draft are some of the best kept in London. Situated right on Newington Green, I cannot recommend this pub highly enough. Matt G
