Please note, Little Bar is now closed. Time Out Editors, 2018.

It’s everyone’s dream, isn’t it? Give up your desk job and open a bar. But when you’re Madeleine Lim, the food and drink editor of the Independent magazine, perhaps it’s not so naive. In 2013, recognising Tooting as ‘on the up’, Lim bought a rundown site with business partner Martin Pannett (who sadly passed away in April 2015) and proceeded to ‘do a Shoreditch’ to it: stripping back its walls to plaster and brick, installing a zinc bar and French warehouse lights, scuffing up those dark floors. It’s a great little – and it is little – spot, especially when you consider the surroundings: on a busy drag, across from the local Iceland. There are cold Spanish nibbles (cheese, olives), international (and a few local) bottled beers, and a compact but classy cocktail list (negronis, old-fashioneds). Ms Lim – you go, girl.

Nestled between Amen Corner and Tooting Broadway The Little Bar at 145 Mitcham Road is a hidden gem. Its rustic interior should not put you off when you see their spirits selection of multiple whiskeys and a neat range of bathtub gins. We had their Manchego and Salami board with a Negroni and a Slow Royale. It's not the cheapest, and the salami could have been tastier, but you do feel like you've contributed to Tooting's constant gintrification (see what I did there?).

A perfect, local bar for a drink or two after work or before dinner on the weekend.  It is very small, so be prepared to be sat close to others but the cocktails and wine more than make up for it!  I went with 4 friends and I think this is the largest group I would recommend is much better as a date spot!  The lights are dimmed and there is a great buzz.  Will be back again soon!

The perfect amount of space, charm, originality and a delightful cocktail choice. A rare find! love it!

All the best things come in small packages.... you can't get smaller or better than the little bar!

This bar is literally seconds walk from my home. I love having it. Yet, it is rarely my first choice - perhaps because with children when we go out we want more entertainment and variety?  But whenever I go in I love it. It's been open a while and it is as its name says 'little' but it punches above its weight in terms of atmosphere and variety of drinks.

I might make a point of going in there more and becoming a 'regular' as that's what I love about the idea of it - but somehow the bar staff never talk to me whilst the appear to with everyone else.

I haven't tried out the snacks - again because it is usually a starting or a finishing point for the night.

I'm fickle if the bar staff noticed me and got to know me I'd give it 5plus stars

The kind of place that makes Tooting an exciting place to live in. Great atmosphere and choice of beverage.

A Tooting institution. You go in for one and end up there all night. Great cocktails and cheese and scotch egg snacks for when you get peckish

Fantastic place, great atmosphere and drinks are excellent!! A must go to place any night

I went to Little Bar recently on a Thursday night and was pleasantly surprised that there was a table for four free right away. They have a concise but interesting menu of cocktails listed on a black board. I have only been once, but can only assume the menu changes quite frequently. Each cocktail is made to perfection - this can take some time, but because it's quite a small bar, you're still not waiting too long for service. Little Bar is a great place to come with friends for a relaxed night trying out new cocktails at low prices.

This is my local bar and boy do I love it! I fell in love with it the moment Martin and Madeleine introduced me to Martin Miller Gin! And the great mystery is why is one never enough? There's always a delicious terrine on the menu, great music being played and a happy buzz on both sides of the bar! It's become my home from home.
