Monday March 13 sees the launch of this year’s edition of London Beer Week, a city-wide celebration of all things hop-tastic. In among a bevy of participating bars and pubs, there's also a host of beer-pairing dinners, brewery tours – with a rickshaw service to zip between them, natch – and meet-the-maker talks.

Oval Space is hosting this year’s eye-of-the-storm event. DrinkUp: The Beer Edit, running from Thursday 16 – Saturday 18, brings a full gamut of beers, ales, lagers, stouts, mead, hoptails and boilermakers (there’s also food and music to, y’know, break up the power boozing) across myriad pop-ups and keg parties. What’s more, we’re offering two-for-one discounts on tickets to DrinkUp, each of which include a free pint of Sharp’s. Kerching! Check the London Beer Week website for updates on the full list of participants and hoppy happenings.

"Ooooh beer!" Is that what you say when you walk by a taproom or brewery on Druid Street? Then London Beer Week should be scribbled into your calendar with a permanent marker.

I can only speak for the Bermondsey rickshaw beer tour, but boy that was fun. A first of its kind event, sponsored by Jameson, it was an incredibly generous and exciting offering, all for £10! Three free beers (oh so many e-s!) in three different breweries; a rickshaw ride in between them; and a hipflask full of Jameson to keep you warm in between guaranteed the fun.

We had a chance to sample some truly exquisite beers, get an insight into brewery life, visit the Bottle Shop, Brew by Numbers and Fourpure, and also enjoy a fun rickshaw ride to save us from all that walking. All the brewers were friendly and welcoming, and made personal recommendations based on your taste. All breweries offered a different vibe from disco night to serious brewing, and the atmosphere was just fantastic.

Well organised, super fun and utterly exciting for any beer lover, I highly recommend this for next year (boo, you missed out!).
