Please note, Oskar's Bar is now closed. Time Out London Food & Drink Editors, Aug 2017.

If you love to adulterate the sophistication of cocktail hour with a cringeworthy pun, Oskar’s is the place for you. How about a ‘Rye, Rye, Rye Delilah’, with White Rhino Alpine rye, wine, pine and lemon? Or the frankly unconscionable ‘Statutory Grape’: cachaça, lovage, lime and condensed milk? As you can see, linguistic egregiousness aside, there is some impressive inventiveness and technical skill at work here. Try the beer- and cider-based drinks, in frosted, dimpled mugs. A ‘Burt Reynolds’ has a warming punch of Johnnie Walker black and bitters cut with Wyld Wood cider, while the ‘Drink with No Name’ is the perfect autumn warmer, with ginger ale and apple-and-greengage liqueur lengthening a bourbon base. The dim industrial space beneath Dabbous perhaps isn’t the most intimate: there aren’t many corners to get all romantic, but we’re all about the drinking: you can neck anywhere.

This bar offers a great combination of inspiring cocktails, a range of excellent ingredients and appropriately attentive service, without the pretention that often occurs in such a place. The minimalist, metallic decor could easily feel cold and harsh, yet this cosy underground hangout felt friendly and accessible. The staff attended to me well, and immediately found me a seat despite having not booked in the pre-Christmas busyness. I sat at the bar where the bar staff chatted to me and advised me about what was good and popular in the world of liquid concoctions. There's an impressive selection of liquers and spirits, and all syrups and preserves are fresh and home-made. Definitely go for a cocktail (when in Rome...) and I particularly recommend an 'Ikea Sours' or '2 Blueberries, 1 Cup'. However, there's a cocktail to suit every tastebud, and help is happily provided by the friendly bar staff if required. I recommend for enjoying a drink with a difference within an easy-going atmosphere. Ali

Best cocktails in town!! Amazing space! Brilliant service!

Very nventive cocktails. Friendly staff. Slightly cold / industrial atmosphere (but it was early in the evening)
