With a prime location between Hackney Village and Victoria Park, this is a capacious pub that draws in crowds for its outdoor seating in particular. Like many of the park pubs in the vicinity, it gets absolutely rammed at the drop of pin when the sun is out, but it usually feels a bit sleepier during the week. It has a spacious dining room that doubles as a great venue for the amount of events that the pub hosts- I have attended two knitting workshops here recently, but there’s a long list of events on their website, from swing dancing to life drawing classes.

Although not as popular as some of the other establishments adjacent to the Park (People’s Park Tavern, for instance), it’s still a decent pub with a tidy selection of some good drinks. You’ll find Tiny Rebel and Gamma Ray from Beavertown on tap and there seems to be a good range of ciders as well. The staff are a bit blasé but friendly enough, but the bar is small. Sometimes the wait can be frustrating as well.

A bit sparse on the inside, there’s usually plenty of seating for customers, but everyone tends to flock to the outdoor area. It’s a relaxed environment, usually populated by locals and their tuckered out dogs. It tends to be pretty quiet and pleasant generally and a good bet if you’re trying to find a beer garden with an unoccupied seat on a nice summer afternoon.

One of my favourite pubs in London! It's beautifully decorated, has a killer Sunday lunch, is dog friendly,  has even friendlier staff and the toilets are a strong 7/10! I would definitely recommend hiding away here for a few hours.

I am a local and have eaten at this pub several times since 1985, it is now at it's best. After the completion of the extension the food improved in quality and consistency. It is not particularly cheap but it's average for a gastropub of the same quality. Being near such a busy park they are almost bound to be overwhelmed at times. There several good restaurants in the area to keep this pub on it's toes.
