This is a party bar for party people: simple as that. The laconic Aussie staff serve a regular clientele, captured and framed in Polaroids on the walls, who gather in a pub-like interior to get merry on two-fer cocktails and forget that work will ever happen again.

The drinks list, prefaced by a neat logo also available across a T-shirt (£15), features more than 50 concoctions, all in the £7 range. With Makers Mark bourbon used in the Rock Star and Brugal rum in the mojitos, the drinkers here are taking in some quality produce.

An undemanding rock soundtrack provides a backdrop for the chat-up banter; a small square of garden hosts smokers and move-to-second-base intimacy.

If you’ve never had a reason to trek all the way to Wimbledon for a night out before: now you do. For the winter months, Suburban Bar & Lounge has transformed their smoking area into an après ski bar.

It’s small, but what they’ve done with the space is really impressive: wooden benches covered in faux animal fur, vintage skis resting by the bar, flickering candles on the tables and game skulls and tin mugs hanging from the ceiling, all finished off by a picture-perfect snow-capped mountain backdrop.

The drinks menu doesn’t disappoint either. To help get you in the après mood, try their delicious ‘Scottish Mule’ cocktail made with Auchentoshan whisky and ginger beer, or brave a shot of potent Jaegermeister served in a little wooden shot tray. Now we’re talking.

I went for the launch of the après bar on Friday, and they didn’t disappoint. There was a live DJ playing every tune you needed to take you back to the slopes. Not only that, after a few songs, along comes the live trumpet player!? Yep. Think about it: Scottish Mule cocktail in hand, bobble hat on, live trumpet playing along to Bruno Mars’s Uptown Funk... Of course, everyone was on their feet.

Think mini Folie Douce in the Alps, but without the cold and stomping ski boots: you've got outdoor heaters keeping you nice and warm and your feet don't ache. Does it get any better?

My only complaint? That it had to end. Unfortunately Suburban has strict noise restrictions to comply with, so we had to end the fun by 12 AM. My recommendation is to get there straight after work and make the most of it whilst the bar is at its busiest. Enjoy, and happy après!

Great venue for after work drinks; always had good service and the cocktails are excellent value during happy hour. :)

Sat 19th May - Really really poor service. 4x bar staff, only 2 of them serving - not sure what the other 2 were doing. Insult to injury was they all took time to have a jaeger bomb whilst potential customers had been waiting at the bar - the staff got drinks before the paying customer. Eventually walked out without our drinks. Frustrating as the music and atmosphere was great - would have been happy to stay.
