An excellent south London boozer, situated on a residential street that's easily reachable from Stockwell or Vauxhall stations. They have a seating area outside the front and the inside is decked out with old Chesterfield sofas to suit the dimly-lit, drawing room vibe of the place. Little kitsch trinkets line the window sills and bar, along with books and board games. There's also a side room where they host regular live music and comedy nights, including one of the best (and free) new-act nights in the city, Comedy Virgins.

My wife and I came here becuase of a Groupon deal that we found online. It included a choice of 2 of their pizzas or 2 of their gourmet hotdogs or one of each, 2 orders of chips and 2 alcoholic drinks and first choice of seats for the comedy show. We absolutely loved everything! We love these quirky type pubs that are a bit off the beaten path. The BBQ chicken pizza and sweet chili chutney dog were DELICIOUS! The comedy show was fantastic as well! The host was hilarious and a really nice guy. The acts were also really good! We even became part of the act and jokes becuase we were the Americans with the Groupon deal lol and it was a really great and fun time. We will definitely come back again when we are nearby!!
A great fun pub with some outstanding comedy evenings. Super staff and a warm welcome at this friendly pub
Intimate little venue that supports live entertainment, a cultural oasis...nice back room with stage, lighting and sound system, nice staff, good grub, good booze and a warm friendly atmosphere.......Yep!
A really friendly pub which has a superb sense of style, very friendly bar stuff and some of the best comedy nights in London.
The Pub had a great feel about it, i recently hosted a live music event there and the facilities were very good. The hospitality was great and the staff were very helpful and friendly
I went to Comedy Virgins at the Cavendish a week ago. What a great pub! Aside from being decked out for Halloween, it was like an Aladdin's cave of retro and fun things. Felt quite comfortable sitting there on my own in front of the lovely fire before my friends turned up. And the actual comedy side was hilarious. Definitely recommend. Only disappointment is that it isn't my local!
The team & atmosphere at The Cavendish Arms are 2nd to none. Great events they get involved in like Stockwell Festival help the whole commmunity - overall it's a wonderful place to have a pint in really welcoming environment that brings a bit of smaller-town friendliness to the chaos of London. Everyone should go check it out!
The Cavendish Arms is certainly one of if not The Best comedy venue for performers in London. The Compere pumps up the love with the audience to create a sweet and warm environment, the stage is classy and professional ( not one of those old men sitting rooms like so many venues out there). I have performed there 3 times now and each time is an absolute thrill, with large audiences ready and eager. People pay loads to go to venues not as nice as this with mediocre comics, at the Cavendish Arms the calibre ranges in talent but what do you expect when some are popping their cherry? I guarantee there will be at least a few that will make you laugh so hard you leave with a six pack! A definite must go!
The Cavendish Arms is an absolute Gem!! Fantastic venue hidden away. Great atmosphere, great decor, superb hosts, good beer and lots and lots of laughter! And its FREE!! What else would you want? I've only been in Stockwell for 3 weeks and I've fallen in love with the place!
We had a joint 50th at the Cavendish Arms in August. It was a Stockwell Seaside Special, we decorated the outside areas in the theme with windbreaks, fairground games etc. The staff were more than happy for us to do what we wished with the space. It was a fantastic night, everybody really loved it! The Staff were great, friendly and helpful and Tristan really looked after us. Thanks! I will never forget the evening! Leah x
Had an amazing time previewing my Edinburgh show yesterday at the Cavendish Fringe - amazing comedy venue, great pub, great festival. The Cavendish stages some of the very best comedy events in London, and everyone should be encouraged to go as often as possible!
What makes the Cavendish so special is that it clearly cares about what it does and how it does above everything else. There's a real emphasis on quality, making sure the place has a good vibe and a real consideration about how it contributes to the community. The staff treat people like friends and not customers. Apart from that you'll probably have a great evening whatever night of the week you go and the disco fries are banging!
Played a gig here last weekend, great little venue, staff v friendly. All round great Saturday night
Best bar in the area for live events. Comedy and live bands never fail to entertain especially with the opportunity to hang out in the friendly bar and chat to the acts afterwards. The events team are always pushing the boudaries, burlesque classes and Bingo Bobs Balls certainly ring the changes. If you're a South Londoner you'd be mad to miss it.
One of the best attended open mic in town, The Cavendish Arm is the place to be to spot promising act and more importantly to have a great time. David the MC on Tuesday has an amazing talent to reveal... talents. It is always very well attended, with a superb atmosphere, a real pub like we all would love to have one in the neighbourhood. Definitely worth the trip to Stockwell!
I went here last Monday. Great, little pub. Great hosts. The night was for Comedy Virgins but some of these acts were not virgins. Far from it, in fact I doubt you would have found anywhere else in London that night offering a higher quality of stand up for free.
Have lived in the area for over 2 years, but only found this place a few months ago. Cosy boozer in one half with chesterfields, an open fire and a Queen Mother fixation. Performance space in the other half with comedy and bands going on most night. Tee staff are friends and it has become my local.
You can pretty much guarantee a good night here every night - there will usually be some event on, whether it's music, comedy, cabaret, burlesque or just a Scotsman playing a 1980s electric organ. It's certainly worth the short walk from Stockwell tube. They server beer so you can get drunk too.
Have had lots of fun at this pub! The bar staff are really friendly and love the ballroom area! Def worth going the extra distance to get to this place, and they have Red Stripe on tap! They make the effort to do allsorts of different things, loving the random Queen Mother theme and tombolas! Check the listings out you won't be disappointed.
Stumbled across this little gem of a pub a few months back. Always loads going on the back performance room; comedy and new bands. There's a great little local market once a month. The pub is dead cosy with a great atmosphere, and great for groups or just popping in for a pint and a natter with the very friendly staff. It's off the beaten track but only a few mins walk from Stockwell tube and loads of bus routes on South Lambeth Road or Wandsworth Road. Decent selection of beers and good basic pub grub.
Love this place! Lots of cool bands and comedy nights oh, and a tombola full of trashy treats! And the disco fries are INCREDIBLE. I had my 30th birthday here last year and it was absolutely perfect for for me and all my pals in a no hassle pub with a great atmosphere.
This Hidden Gem of Stockwell has great events every night of the week in the vintage speak easy vibe Back room/ Ballroom spanning Comedy, Music & Burlesque! Plus the quirky Pub is a great local to pop in for a chat and meet interesting people. The Disco Fries are true highlight which are served till close every night! Mmm
