Time Out says

On the corner of Liverpool Street and Bishopsgate, the George is a quintessentially British pub. It's part of the stylish Andaz hotel but, retaining the original architecture of oak-panelled walls and crafted Victorian ceiling, the pub serves up hand-pulled pints and classic comfort food in the vein of Shepherd's pie, bangers and mash, and fish and chips to city slickers.

A far as elegant Victorian pubs go this would be it, with is beautifully Victorian ceilings and original oak panels the George which is part of the Andaz hotel is a very handsome boozer. This place is really popular with the city folk. We recently had the pleasure of booking their private room for a team lunch, the dedicated waitress was great, drinks arrived promptly despite the main bar being rather busy, food was of good quality @ £25 per head we were spoilt for choice, I had the salmon with pickled beets and creme fraiche for my starter, a very tasty seabass in a lobster bisque for my main and the cheese cake with candied orange peel ,honeycomb and a poached orange segment. They alternatively offer a great selection of pub grub, traditional fish and chips, sausage and mash, steak sandwiches, ploughman's and have a vast selection of beers, ales, spirits and wines. Next time you waiting on your delayed train or fancy a pint in a historical venue go check it out.
