I recently visited the Hand & Racquet to meet friends to watch the Six Nations. Despite the awful result (England losing to Scotland) I have a lovely time. The finger food that we ordered was up to the usual Green King standard and the range of lagers, ales, ciders and spirits was plentiful. The pub didn't have Sky or BT sports so didn't attract a football crowd so it made watching the rugby a lot more enjoyable as rivals could happily chat away.
A bit shout out to the bar staff too who were really friendly and helpful, recommending drinks and food as well as ensuring everything was okay when there was a slight delay due to the kitchen being a little overwhelmed.
I was given a free Sunday roast because they are part of the Greene King chain which was offering it to Macmillan professionals. I was treated like a rockstar by the employees! It is a nice little pub that has a country feel to it even though it is on the high street near the station. The food was hot and plentiful. The meat although there was not a lot of it, melted in my mouth. Definitely give it a try!
