It is not unusual when frequenting London pubs to share both furniture and personal space with strangers. In this grand old building at the north end of Green Lanes you barely have to share bar staff: it's absolutely massive. Taxidermy cases and ornate cornicing decorate the central, beer-focused bar, and drinkers take their pick from private booths, fireside armchairs or more sociable clusters of tables and chairs in one of two huge spaces.
If you're expecting company you might want to alert them to your whereabouts with some kind of flare. A jukebox plays music in the main room and a projector plays sport in the second, but apart from its architecture the main reason for a trip to the Salisbury is for a peaceful pint with extensive elbow room.

Although there isn't that much competition, The Salisbury is comfortably the best pub on Green Lanes. Despite its massive size, it always feels busy with a great atmosphere, but never claustrophobic and with plenty of seating and interesting décor (whether or not taxidermy is your thing). The selection of ales is excellent and rotates frequently. Monday night is quiz night, each of the two rounds being cheap to enter; the prizes can get pretty big as it tends to draw a large crowd. All in all a great local spot.
Love this pub! Beautiful, relaxed, have got bar service and who's next in line perfectly managed! Lots of cute corners and plenty of space for bigger groups too!
Excellent bar staff, very nice atmosphere and the food is good. A definite meeting point with friends around...
LOVE this venue! We are there weekly! And, once a month for the fantastic vintage swing dance event, Mouthful O' Jam!
Worth a visit for the beautiful building alone. A gorgeous old gin palace with an extensive selection of ales and lagers on tap. The food isn't anything special and it can be a bit chilly when it's not busy, so eat somewhere else beforehand and bring a jumper :)
Great pub. Lively at the weekend. Top Quiz night on Monday. Good selection of beers and freindly staff.
Matt M must have been unlucky in his visit - I've been around 10 or so times, always had excellent food at excellent portion sizes, with great beers on top and sometimes trial beers at £2.50 a pint if you're happy to fill out a feedback card to say what you think of it (Dogfish Head DNA for £2.50 a pint - you'll get charged twice that in some places!!). Good events hosted in the back room as well. Fantastic local boozer.
I'm sat in the salisbury right now. A gorgeous day, a pint and some good pub food is what's needed. Pricesly the reason I walked into this pub in the first place. Unfortunately I was handed a flat litovel and an over priced ausie burger. Usually I would gladly pay 9 quid for a burger, but this one looks thrown together by an incompetent. I'll have to saver the 21 chips it was accompanied with as they look like the best part of my day. Only thing is, I'm a man. Take away your petty kiddie sized portions and start earning the money your asking for this experience.
And clean the god damp lines.
Best quiz on Mondays! I come from Dalston to do this every week. Beautiful bar and great ambiance. Food is pretty good too. Stunning people aplenty. Five thumbs up!
This is the most beautiful pub in London. Despite the location it is well worth a visit. Winter Sundays next the file place with a Sunday roast are lovely. Not to be missed.
Not the chicest of pubs but great exterior, perfect location if you're out and about in Soho, or seeing a play in the evening and the relaxed stuff are a nice exception to the rule.
