Islington’s bursting with great beer bars these days, and the modern interpretation of a traditional pub that is The Three Johns might soon become your favourite. Dark furnishings, tall ceilings and lots of floor space set it apart from more traditional watering holes, and the huge beer list is similarly contemporary. Although it doesn’t feel chainy at all, it’s part of a small group that also includes The Earl of Essex and the Exmouth Arms, and they all guarantee a strong beer offer. No chance of a pickled egg at the bar either, but there is decent sourdough pizza. Given that it’s metres from the dispiriting, traffic-clogged, chain-bar hell of Angel, it’s a great place to drink.

Recently went to this bustling pub a couple of mins away from Angel. We were really pleased with the drinks, but have to agree that there was limited food options / pizza flavours. We ended up going with a pizza and having to pick off some of the topping, which felt like a slight waste. The music was pretty deafening, but it still had a good Friday night vibe!

Nice vibe with good space, it doesn’t feel too crowded inside even around 6.30pm when it actually is. The food isn’t bad, but isn’t great either. There is pizza with limited flavour options, and although the other people’s pizzas looked fine, mine came quite overcooked (half of it was quite burnt actually). The drinks were ok, and good-priced (if compared to the other pubs in the area).

Great beers on tap, even better stuff in bottles. Easily the best selection in the area, with plenty of stylishly done-up space to enjoy them in. Bravo!

The Three Johns is fantastic. Not just a good pub with ample space, the pizza is some of the best I've had in the area! Sourdough bases with Scotch Bonnet BBQ sauce and a variety of mouth watering toppings. It's never too busy and the staff are very friendly and welcoming. There are even some benches outside for when the sun pops out (if you don't mind the view of dominos opposite and the working market up the street). Belter of an all rounder, I've definitely made this one of my regular stops in Angel.

The Three Johns is an excellent pub that serves a good variety of beers and ales. There’s usually a busy and buzzing atmosphere but the bar staff are well able to cope and there's never much of a wait.

There isn’t much seating, but if you’re happy to stand there’s plenty of room for that.

The pizzas too are good value and tasty, and manage to stop you craving the Domino's pizza just over the road!
