The Woolpack is a down-to-earth alternative to the Garrison opposite, even if its website witters on about ‘unwinding in the heart of bohemian Bermondsey’.
The location is prosaic – a side street branching off from the London Bridge rail estuary – but that shouldn’t detract from what’s a quality two-floor pub-restaurant. Beer-wise, you’ll find the likes of Kirin Ichiban, Leffe and Thwaites Nutty Black, while the dozen-strong wine list (by the glass and bottle) includes a few unusual offerings.
Mains are of the beer-battered haddock and chips or Cumberland sausage and mash variety, and cost around a tenner. The smaller, tiled downstairs space feels lived-in and traditional, while upstairs is even more relaxed.

very suprised by the below comments. Just had a great lunch there with lovely friendly waiting staff who could not have been more helpful. Great atmosphere and I am not easy to please as I had already walked out of a pub because the bar staff were rude.
Fantastic venue with a gr* Caesar salad and juicy lamb you can reall sink your fangs into! Dog-friendly!
With a well stocked bar and plenty of covered/heated outdoor space this pub is as appealing now in Autumn as it is in the summer.
What's not to love about the Wonderful Woolly - from the food to the cheery friendly efficient staff to the lovely garden to the upstairs bar with the Sistine Chapel replicated on the ceiling.
Will never visit this pub again. The staff were offensive rude childish and physically abusive. If you want to enjoy a nice calming drink visit the pub opposite this appalling pub which offers an mature and friendly atmosphere without the verbal abuse myself and a large group received from the hideous staff at the woolpack. So many who were physically chucked out of this pub for no reason other than it was 1 minute past 11 were outraged and disgusted and will not return. It is being run by children who have no idea about hospitality or human interaction. Absolutely disgusting.
Great place all year round. Cozy in the winter and massive beer garden in the summer. Good pub food (big fan of the steak) and good choice of drinks. Friendly staff too!
Today I went to Woolpack pub and got truly DISAPPOINTED.
I am registered in an app called freedrinkpubs, as some of you might know, some pubs are registered there and this weekend they were suppose to offer one drink to whoever had the voucher....
Anyway, I walked a long way to get there and finaly get to know this pub, as I got in and talked with the barmaids about the voucher they immediately said NO, without giving any explanation AT ALL, they were EXTREMELY RUDE with me and it was a very UNPLEASANT situation.
This is not the way to treat a potential client, and no one at all!
Wish you bad luck and hopefuly I wont have to pass through your door any time soon.
The perfect time is to rock up in the morning, that way you have seat in the garden, enjoy the food and drinks, if you want to go in the evening more fool you!
Good during the day, but not recommended for evening drinks especially at the weekend. Very overcrowded with no where to sit, and closes strangely early.
Good terrace but regrettably that's all it has as positives. Awful service and for me its what counts in pub. Takes long, service is rude and not really helpful. Normally you must beg for a beer and also it takes so long. Last time asked for a burger all I got was without a table no burgers - got a table 5 mins came back kitchen was closed. .. As a best alternative with a terrace and with much better service and food I recommend the Millers 2 mins walking distance
I've been there once and staff was unfriendly and service just below average. I gave them the benefit of doubt, but they escalated to become rude and terrible service - and it wasn't even full. No excuses now. On top of it, their drinks selection is poor. Not recommended.
Great breakfast but it is the service that was a disappointment. Very young and inexperienced staff. They brought the bill without asking and then proceeded to ask 3 times how we would like to pay. Got the message and moved on... we had 2 full breakfast 4 cups of coffees, 2 juices and would have liked time to digest without feeling turffed out onto the street.
