I came from hampstead to check it out... so happy i did amazing wine list and wonderful food all top off with amazing staff.... loved it
This is my local and I'm so pleased it is, as it's one of the loveliest pubs in Walthamstow. Very tasty grub (several options for veggies and loads for carnivores), the manager, Adam, is super-friendly and the pub itself is a lovely space. It feels bright and airy due to the lovely large windows, but they have cosy fires to sit by in the winter and a pretty courtyard out the back too. What I love the most is that you're always greeted with warmth and friendliness, no matter how busy they are and coupled with a great selection of beers and top notch food, it's a hard place to leave!
Under new management - what a breath of fresh air! As locals we're absolutely thrilled The Castle has undergone a transformation. The staff are friendly, the wine list great and food is delicious (and that's rare considering I'm a vegetarian!). We've visited at least 5 times in the past month - sometimes just for a quick drink, and other times for a big family Sunday lunch and have been seriously impressed every single time. Without a doubt the best pub in the area.
Delicious sunday lunch. The new management have turned it into a a warm, cosy and welcoming retreat on what was a rather wet and windy sunday last weekend. It was simple to book a table and there was also a wide range of sunday papers to just relax and read while we tucked into a roast pork- with great crackling and a good selection of wine to accompany it. I look forward to returning and trying the rest of the menu!
I walk 20 mins past several other pubs to make The Castle my local. It's greatest asset by far is the bar staff. The new owner and small team will make an effort to get to know you. Ladies will know it's a rare pub that you feel comfortable enough to come in on your own, sit comfortably at the bar and just read your magazine whilst sipping a vino. The cockney regulars and fancy pants decor make it a pretty decent place for a drink.
Bar staff where a bit distracted by each other but food was very good (though a little pricey). The pub was clean, tastefully decorated, quiet and relaxed. The beer was good. Have been a few times now including on a Monday when there was a amusing and challenging pub quiz, with quite a few followers, going on in the background.
Purports to family friendly. Nothing could be further from the truth as we've witness the landlord being extremely rude, swearing at the mother of a toddler. Very unprofessional. A pub that pretends to be part of the local community but does nothing to embrace it. Average food, which is usually served in rather small portions. Not good value for money.
