Are you a wannabe DJ? You can give it a go for free on Portobello Road this week

A new pop-up on London's Portobello Road is offering free DJ lessons to anyone who has a hankering to try their hand on the decks.

The aim of the scheme, inspired by London's street pianos, is for Londoners to embrace their inner beat. Anyone can stop, give it a go and mix their own tracks – fledgling DJs, musical novices and curious shoppers alike.

The decks have been set up by Blind Pig Cider, who think we Londoners are all too shy to give DJ-ing a go. 'We all have a tendency to let a sense of shyness or perceived authority stop us from trying things which could otherwise be enormously positive, socially rewarding experiences,' says the brand. 'As most will know the world of DJing is beset with rules – such as don’t approach the DJ or make requests, and absolutely never touch the hardware… But we’re actively asking people to do exactly that.'

The decks can be found at the corner of Portobello and Tavistock Road from today until Friday, between 11am and 8pm.
