Benedict Cumberbatch isn’t feeling paternal in this first look at the 'Sherlock' Christmas special

Talk about an early Christmas present. It’s not even December yet, but these first-look pictures of the new 'Sherlock' festive special have got us feeling all warm and cinnamon-y inside.

The BBC have released a few images from the first episode of the new 'Sherlock' season, which is FINALLY returning to our screens on New Year’s Day.

There’s a snap of the Watsons proudly posing with their brand new addition, while a perturbed Sherlock photobombs in the background.

In real life, he’s a dad of one, with another baby on the way. But Benedict Cumberbatch’s new parental status clearly hasn’t rubbed off on Uncle Sherlock...

There’s also an image of Toby Jones as new pastel suit-sporting villain Culverton Smith, as well as a snap of frowny brothers Sherlock and Mycroft.

When it comes to what is actually going in this episode, besides late nights and nappy changes, we're not sure. 'Sherlock' is notoriously secretive about plot details. But we'll definitely be dragging our hungover selves out of bed on New Year's Day to find out.
