Remember at the start of August when the entire world went mental about Benedict Cumberbatch's 'Hamlet'? The media glare may have moved on, but Benny and co have been getting on with the serious business of performing Shakespeare's greatest play night on night. The show may have sold out at the Barbican epochs ago, but fortunately those good folks at the National Theatre's NT Live screening arm are broadcasting tonight's performance live to literally hundreds of cinemas across the globe – including, by our count, 67 in London alone, with a first ever NT Live screening at the Leicester Square Odeon.

Quoth Cumberbatch himself: 'It feels truly thrilling to be opening up our theatre production of Hamlet to the wider reach of a National Theatre Live audience. The idea that people who can't get to the theatre, for whatever reason, can join us for one night in cinemas around the country - and indeed the world - is extraordinary. Each screening will doubtless have its own atmosphere, but wherever you’re watching, thanks to the brilliance of the National Theatre Live team, you’ll be right at the heart of the action, in the best seat in the house'.

So there you go – he wouldn't lie to you. Plenty of them have sold out already, so get booking quick, never fear if you don't make it down – 'encore' screenings will start from October 22, and if the 'Batch's last NT Live show 'Frankenstein' is anything to go by, 'Hamlet' will remain an occasional fixture in our cinemas for years.
