A huge artwork created by Yinka Shonibare is currently wrapped around the façade of the Royal Academy’s Burlington Gardens building while it undergoes redevelopment. It’s also doubling up as the inspiration for this year’s Burlington Gardens Festival which sees installations, talks, performances, music and workshops taking place in the temporary forecourt.

Highlights include a pop-up dining room serving three courses of Nigerian inspired grub, hosted by American artist Doug Fishbone who’ll be discussing Shonibare’s work (£18). Students from the RA Schools will be running print workshops and staging film installations, a seven-piece band will bring an urban funk soundtrack to the afternoon, and drumming workshops will be open to those who want to join the throng.

RA Burlington Gardens Festival, Sat Jul 2, free.
