City envy: we want a drive-through ramen bar like Torrance

You know those moments when you just, like, need ramen in your face instantly? Apparently, residents of Torrance, a city in LA county, aren’t willing to wait for their bowls of steaming noodles any longer than is strictly necessary: a ramen drive-through is due to open there by the end of this year.

It’ll be the latest opening from Japanese restaurant chain Shin-Sen-Gumi, and its boss says the idea is a way of ‘taking a part of Japanese culture and adapting it to the American or Southern Californian lifestyle’. Drivers will be able to pull up to a hatch and order the speediest ramen known to man, as well as specials including fried chicken, tempura and pork katsu.

Even better, the restaurant will be open from 6am each day to satisfy the umami needs of even the earliest riser. Super noodles indeed!

Hungry? Here are London’s best ramen bars. We also want a go on Tel Aviv’s giant Tetris game.
