Die hard: Witness Monopoly history at the Shard this weekend

Now that the Wimbledon buzz has died down, we can’t help but feel like London is lacking a little bit of competitive spirit. But don’t worry, sports fans, for there’s a spectacle far grander (well, far nerdier) than anything you’ll find at the All England Club headed to the Shard this Sunday. The stage is set and the stakes are higher than the rent on a Mayfair hotel – that’s right, it’s the finals of the UK & Ireland Monopoly Championships.

Anyone with a ticket to the Shard’s viewing deck will be able to spectate on the heats (from 10am) and the final (from 2pm), the winner of which will be flown out to China to represent the nation in the Monopoly World Championship Final. We’re guessing the grand champ can expect more than the standard, paltry £200 salary as they triumphantly pass ‘go’ for the final time.
