Want to know whether you should take the shortcut down that slightly dodgy-looking alleyway? A new app could help make your decision for you. RedZone uses police data, news stories and social media to create an interactive geo-tagged map with details of crimes that have taken place over the last six months. Based on the data, the app will offer you two routes – a 'safe route' that could take longer and a 'risky route' that's quicker but may take you through certain crime hotspots.

Users will also be able to 'broadcast an incident', reporting crimes in real-time by dropping pins on the map. And there's even the option to upload photos and videos if you managed to get a snap of the perp. The app has already launched in the US and will be coming to London this month.
