Free petting zoos, ice cream and lunch treats: it's LondOntheInside’s tips for April

Our mates at LondOntheInside have rounded up five things they’re pretty damn excited about this month.

Som Saa, Spitalfields, April 11

Som Saa is finally opening in Spitalfields this month. Yes it's been a long wait, but they're back for good with THAT Bangkok hot som tam and a whole host of curries. And there’s a new and expanded brunch menu, including Thai omelettes, Thai-Chinese style doughnuts (whatever that means), and Bangkok Marys. See you in the queue.

Free pop-up petting zoo, Islington, April 6/7, FREE

We are huge fans of going to the zoo. Which is why we’re just a little bit excited about the free petting zoo coming to Angel this month. Think rabbits and guinea pigs rather than lions and tigers AND a creepy crawlies section with experts on hand for you to fire questions at: 'Are daddy longlegs really just spiders with wings that come after me in my dreams?’, etc.

Free Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream, various locations, April 12

It’s officially less bleak when the annual Ben & Jerry's free ice cream scoop days are announced. Because seriously, there's nothing better than free ice cream. Head on down to your nearest shop and check it out – get two, we won’t judge you.

Free lunch at Walter & Monty, 6 Bury Court, April 14/15, 11.30am-2.30pm

Walter & Monty have gone from pop-up to perm and are celebrating by feeding you all for free. Think butterflied leg of lamb marinated in mint garlic and lemon and beef pichana. Just arrive between 11.30am and 2.30pm, pick your item and VOILA.

Lust For Youth, Moth Club, Hackney, April 22

Arguably one of the coolest bands around at the moment, Lust For Youth hit the Moth Club in Hackney. The Danish dudes combine brooding vocals, reverbed strings and synths that dance upon soundscapes like a ballerina; it's melancholic electronica and it's pretty epic. They're full of '80s nostalgia, so expect warm fuzzy feelings.
