Get inside your drink and out of your mind – augmented reality is coming to a London bar

What you’ve been waiting for all your life and just didn’t know it? The world’s first augmented reality cocktail menu. Jason Atherton’s sky-high City Social bar has just brought one to punters looking for extra kicks with their cocktails, and the results look pretty mind-boggling.

Visitors to the bar are invited to download Mirage, an app that’s been created to work interactively with cocktails ordered from the City Social menu. Customers are asked to point the app towards the drink and hey presto: the appearance of your cocktail is transformed into a vision inspired by art through the ages.

So if you order a cocktail called the Sashay, expect the champagne tipple to take on an elegant art nouveau look when viewed through the app. Or order a gin-based Dogstone Brew that takes inspiration from Victorian artworks and is accompanied by virtual hot air balloons and other Victorian art attributes.

So go on. Get pissed on a Picasso. Get boozy with Banksy. Van Gogh hard or go home.

In other booze news, new rooftop bar Sisu is coming to Oxford Street – and it’s got a negroni machine!
