Glenn Close brings 'Sunset Boulevard' to the West End – and tickets start cheap

The fabulous Glenn Close is to hit the West End stage for the first time next year to play Norma Desmond, a faded silent screen actress living in her own strange, sad fantasy world in ENO’s revival of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s smash 1993 musical ‘Sunset Boulevard’.

It’s the follow up production to last year’s Emma Thompson-fronted ‘Sweeney Todd’, as English National Opera continue to stage big, starry musicals in an effort to up their cash flow.

Like ‘Todd’, ‘Sunset Boulevard’ will be semi-staged, so the sets are a touch less lavish than they might be, though director Lonny Price certainly got around this with last year’s creative, cheeky ‘Todd’. And the big bonus is that tickets start off astoundingly cheap for a star of Close’s stature: 400 tickets per performance will be £25 or less, with 100 costing a mere £12.

‘Sunset Boulevard’ is at the London Coliseum April 1 to May 7 2016. Public booking opens Tue Sep 29 at 10am.
