Help make the UK's longest paper chain at Borough Market

Borough Market's Christmas lights switch on isn't any old celebrity-endorsed affair. This year the market is pulling out all the stops by flicking the switch while unveiling a 400-metre long paper chain, which will be the longest in the UK.

As it's Borough Market, there will obviously be delicious homemade mince pies to munch on while you eyeball the 200 square feet of baubles, wreaths and twinkling lights. Plus, there will be food demonstrations, entertainment from the tuneful Borough Market Choir and, of course, plenty of mulled wine.

There's even an opportunity to get your Christmas message on the paper chain. On November 28, you can leave a hand-written message on one of 500 pieces of card, which will then be added by a team of artists ahead of the main event on November 30.

It's free to attend but the market is asking people to dig deep and donate to food waste charity Plan Zheroes, who to date, have fed vulnerable people 50,000 meals from the market's edible leftovers.

Borough Market's Christmas lights switch-on takes place at Borough Market, Market Hall, 8 Southwark Street, SE1 1TL on Wed Nov 30, 6-8pm, with the switch-on at 6.30pm.
