John Marshall

In the run-up to this year’s Brit Awards on Wednesday, artists and fans have been tweeting the hashtag #BritsSoWhite to condemn the lack of racial diversity in the major category nominations. Grime MC Stormzy kicked things off with a freestyle in January that called the absence of black artists on this year’s major shortlists ‘embarrassing’. Now a petition to the Brits Academy to publish its diversity figures has gained more than 1,500 signatures, and the singer Laura Mvula has declared she is boycotting the ceremony.

On the morning of the awards, we’ve crunched the numbers from the last three decades of Brit Awards. Long story short: white male musicians are probably in for a good night.
