It's almost time for the biggest film event our city has to offer: London Film Festival will take over venues big and small from October 7 - 18, when cinemas big and small will host hundreds of showings, from star-studded red carpet affairs for future blockbusters, to smaller screenings of the very best world cinema.

Feel smug if you're a BFI member as you can already get your hands on tickets. And if you're not a member it might be worth forking out the 45 quid to join and take advantage of the early bird tickets, or else you can wait until Thursday September 17 when they go on general sale.

While you wait, here's our pick of the 10 best movies you need to see.

Suffragette

Carol

Steve Jobs

Room

Black Mass

Trumbo

The Lady in the Van

The Lobster

The Program

Beasts of No Nation
