Yes, east London is known for its pop-ups, craft beer and beards, but its also home to a whole lot of crafty folk. Maker Mile is a new collective of 12 creative studios, mini factories and open workshops, which are dotted around Mare Street and bordering Tower Hamlets and Hackney. On September 21, as part of London Design Festival, the collective are hosting their first event - Open Mile, a night of workshops across the mile. Those taking part include Technology Will Save Us, East London Printmakers, the V&A Museum of Childhood and five 'maker spaces' where you can learn how to fix a bike or master the art of 3D printing. If you're feeling crafty and want to get involved, there's no need to book and you can pick up a hand-printed map from any of the locations on the trail.

Find out more about Maker Mile. From September 21.
