Peckham Levels

Back in March we told you about Make Shift's bid to transform Peckham Car Park into Peckham Levels. Last week, planning was granted meaning work will soon begin on the 90,000 square ft hub that will have its first phase of artist studios bubbling away by November, with public spaces and event venues following in 2017.

Carl Turner Architects and The Collective have been enlisted to work on the project by Make Shift (formerly known as Pop Community and the brains behind Pop Brixton) in partnership with Southwark Council. The first four levels will be dedicated to creative workspace, while levels five and six will house eateries, exercise studios, garden terraces and an exhibition space. Fans of Bold Tendencies and Frank’s Café have no need to worry as floors seven to ten will remain unchanged and the Peckhamplex cinema will operate as usual, meaning you’ll have no need to leave SE15 ever again.

A growing waiting list for studio space and membership has already formed (20 percent of which will be offered at a subsidised rate for locals), and updates on the plans can be found on the Peckham Levels website.

Here are even more reasons to go to Peckham
