Save money and support local businesses with the new Lewisham Card

Live in Lewisham and like saving money? You're in luck, because there's a new initiative called the Lewisham Card, which gets you discounts at over 120 independent businesses within the borough. It's been launched by 23 year-old Thomas Page, who wants to promote local businesses and help you save some cash, too. Discounts range from 5 to 50 percent off, and businesses taking part include pubs, restaurants, butchers, bike shops, hairdressers and even roofers.

And if you need more convincing to bin off the big brands, here are some cold, hard stats: every pound you spend in local businesses circulates a very precise 63p back into the local economy, compared to only 40p in high street shops. The card is £15 per year or you can buy two for £20, which you should make back pretty quickly after a few nights in the pub (or finally getting that leaky roof fixed). Plus, you'll be doing your bit to keep local businesses afloat, which might just help stop your high street from being turned into one giant estate agents. Win-win.
