Some runners are selling their London Marathon medals on eBay

You’d think that the sore legs and painful blisters would be proof enough for anyone who knocked out the London Marathon on Sunday. Apparently not. Some runners have decided to cash in on their graft by whacking their hard-earned medals up on eBay.

So far, the going price ranges between £7-£61 and reasons for the auctions vary from ‘selling for a friend’ to ‘ran it today but have medals from previous years so do not need this’. Fair enough. There are no hard and fast rules about what someone does with their medal – beyond cherishing it, of course – but at least one seller’s decided to peddle his to raise cash for Water Aid and Save the Children.

He wrote on his listing: ‘My dad has finished the London Marathon today in 2.50.06, an absolutely cracking time. He has decided to sell his top and medal and donate the money to his chosen charities.’ Good man.
