1. Today is National Beer Day, and you can celebrate it with a free scoop of American Nut Brown Ale sorbet from London gelato maker La Gelatiera on West Park Walk. 2. The Barber Shop Chronicles is now open at the National Theatre. Sprawling out from a story set in London to take in five African cities, Inua Ellams’s sharp-edged play offers a keen insight into masculinity and community that is not to be missed.

3. See the powerful abstract paintings of little-known 20^th century Turkish artist Fahrelnissa Zeid, who is finally getting her moment in the sun with a solo show at Tate Modern.
