1. Today is National Beer Day, and you can celebrate it with a free scoop of American Nut Brown Ale sorbet from London gelato maker La Gelatiera on West Park Walk. The sorbet is dairy free and vegan-friendly, but it does contain a drop of a bestselling ale from Crate brewery. Get there before 1pm for a chance to claim yours.

2. The Barber Shop Chronicles is now open at the National Theatre. Sprawling out from a story set in London to take in five African cities, Inua Ellams’s sharp-edged play offers a keen insight into masculinity and community that is not to be missed.

3. See the powerful abstract paintings of little-known 20th century Turkish artist Fahrelnissa Zeid, who is finally getting her moment in the sun with a solo show at Tate Modern.
