Anyone eagerly anticipating the opening of the new Design Museum will be pleased to hear that the new building on Kensington High Street will be swinging open its doors on November 24 this year. The museum's new home is a listed building from the 1960s, which has undergone an £83 million transformation. The new building is three times the size of the current location in Shad Thames, and for the first time, the museum will feature a free permanent display of its collection.
The museum’s current site will close to the public on June 30, but it'll be going out with a bang with its final event, Weekend Punk; a two-day celebration of the influence and legacy of punk design as part of the year-long festival Punk London.
