Who needs the bare necessities when there are giant ‘Jungle Book’ cakes in the world? That’s right: a huge Kipling (Rudyard, not Mr)-inspired cake will be on display at The Mall in Walthamstow this weekend, featuring all the iconic characters in sponge form. We’re talking iced Baloo, fondant-filled Shere Khan and cream-encased Mowgli.

The entire display, created by Sylvia Elba of Cutiful Cakes, is a whopping 4.8 metres wide and 2 metres tall. More than 5kg of royal icing, 600 sheets of wafer paper and a whole load of edible inks and dusts have been used to build it. Turns out the jungle sure is massive when it comes to confectionery.

Catch the giant cake at The Mall in Walthamstow from Fri May 12 to Sun May 14. The display coincides with National Children’s Day (Sun May 14) and The Mall will be donating £250 to the Save Childhood Movement as well as running a competition across the weekend for children to win a range of baking-related prizes.
