What do you look for in a good pub? Decent beer? A wide selection of crisp flavours? What about the ratio of bearded to non-bearded people? If that last one's a deal breaker, then you'll be pleased to know that results of the annual Beard Friendly Pub of the Year Awards are in – and two watering holes in Hackney have topped the list. The Jolly Butchers in Stoke Newington has just about held onto its title from last year, although this time they're sharing the hairy accolade with the Cock Tavern on Mare Street.

The awards are organised by the Beard Liberation Front, who describe themselves as 'an informal network of beard wearers'. At the start of the year they released a shortlist of 12 pubs across the UK, before opening up the vote to the furry-chinned public. It was a bit of a landslide victory for Hackney's boozers, as the two winning pubs scooped nearly 2,500 votes each out of a total of 7,419. Cheers!
