Funny things, awards – they can recognise excellence, stimulate conversation within a scene and raise wider awareness of it throughout the culture; they're also inevitably partial and can provoke division or encourage reductive thinking. Last year's inaugural London Cabaret Awards, with categories recognising performers, behind-the-scenes crew and unsung heroes, were generally well received on the scene. For this second year there's a new jury – the plan is to bring in new judges each year – and the event, produced by Paul L Martin and presented by the Divine Miss Em, features performances by Sarah-Louise Young and the Folly Mixtures.
